I was there during the 2015 election process and took photos on election day: the election tents were very quiet, and many were empty, but the government claimed there was a huge voter turnout and won a laughable 100% of parliamentary seats. I lived near opposition party headquarters and witnessed how they were intimidated and how people were intimidated from supporting them. Opposition party members were harassed, beaten, tortured, jailed, even killed- there was no opportunity for a fair election. The government party pays students to be \"informers,\" as I found out when I lectured classes there. Thousands of people have \"disappeared,\" as I learned from friends and students who have relatives and friends who simply \"disappeared.\" Terrible corrupt practices and party control of the universities hinders academic freedom and quality of education there. Citizens live in silence and fear and this perpetuates poverty and misery. The \"double-digit economy\" claims are simply deceit and myth.
