Any citizen is free to hold that view, but there is surely an appearance that a different standard of justice would be applied to the gay man and woman by a District Attorney who espouses it and felt it appropriate to state it publicly.",

"commentText": "The opioid crisis is not a crime according to the DA - but he should recognize that while it may be considered an illness - most in law enforcement believe it is behavior driven. Also it would be nice if Mr. Zappala would be more public about support for the police in the county - as the chief law enforcement officer of Allegheny County - he should be more complimentary of the officers who work day in and day out to protect the citizens and visitors to our area. Granted there are times he has to make decisions regarding officers who have gone afoul of the law themselves - this is warranted and necessary. But too often he seems to be ant-police in his rhetoric for political purposes. Back the good guys (and Gals) Steve!",

"commentText": "Really? Blind support of the police is dangerous and misguided.\nAt least 85,000 law enforcement officers across the USA have been investigated or disciplined for misconduct over the past decade, an investigation by USA TODAY Network found.\nI do not trust the police. They should all carry personal liability insurance; and I absolutely do not condone taxpayer funding of legal costs, or reimbursement of those costs at any time. If their insurance can't pay, take the funds from police pensions, again not to be reimbursed by the taxpayers (who did not commit the crimes). Until the time that police feel the financial burden of their actions, nothing will change.\nhttps://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/investigations/2019/04/24/usa-today-revealing-misconduct-records-police-cops/3223984002/",
