Computers today are no smarter than the difference engine of old. Quantum or biological computing may one day rise to the level of human capacity. I think it unlikely that any system using current processors will challenge human minds in our lifetime. \nNot to downplay the achievements of the folks at IBM, they have made some decent progress. I am not sure how much the processing is improved over the distributed computing models of the 1990s (and likely less altruistic of IBM). The effort is in the software (firmware?) portion. I have little doubt that the same effort applied to training a human or multiple humans (2800) would enable us to beat the computers on their own turf! \nPerhaps the effort would better have been spent training the computer to best solve problems in its own realm. We already have enough human minds on the planet to solve tough problems and answer trivia questions.
