There is no denying that Islam is the only religion that encourages struggle for a noble cause, which in Arabic is called Jihad. In this way Islam is not a pacifist religion. In this respect, in my opinion, the struggle of Gandhi of India against imperialist Britain is the best example of what Jihad in Islam should be in the face of any form of oppression. In Qur'an Allah says that, He is Light upon Light, but His enemies want to extinguish His Light. Why do they want to do this? It is because they are so arrogant that they would rather that everyone else including Allah submitted to them, instead of they submitting to anyone else, including to Allah. The enemies of Allah will always hate Muslims because Muslims submit to Allah. There is no such thing as political Islam, but there has always been such a thing as Muslims in politics starting with the Prophet of Islam himself in order to protect Muslims from religious persecution. Are these Atheists \"giving back\" because they truly believe in the \"cause\" or are they \"giving back\" because they are trying to counteract what the media is doing and that is making a HUGE deal that the man who shot these three people is an Atheist? 

If the man claimed he was a \"Christian\" would a bunch of \"Christians\" \"give back\" and \"take up the cause\" to try and save face with the world? If a \"Christian\" man blew up an abortion clinic would a bunch of \"Christians\" \"give back and \"take up the cause\" to try and prove to the world that not all Christians are like this? 

I don't think that Atheists need to take up any \"cause\" just to prove that they are not like this very sick and twisted man. We hear all the time that there are extremists in every religion whether they are Christian, Islamic, Jewish, etc. Is it our responsibility to show the world that there are extremists in Atheism? Or do we need to show the world that no matter what your religion or lack thereof there are some very sick and twisted people who are willing to hurt and even murder for the stupidest of reasons including a parking spot. 

Remember, initially this whole thing was over a parking spot. It wasn't until after the media got a hold of the fact that the murder was an Atheist did the family start screaming that the murderer was harassing them about their religion long before the parking spot issue. The media is what started this firestorm and the family made it worse with a story of longtime religious harassment that no one can prove if it's true or not. Now the police have to sort through all the \"claims\" in order to see if a murder over a parking spot is a \"hate crime.\"

At the time when he first tweeted about it, details of the crime were still thin on the ground. 
Facts were so thin on the ground he didn't have any facts bare the minimum in his possession.
