"commentText": "I worked for a few public agencies and they all had a \"moonlighting\" clause where any other work had to be approved prior to accepting it. I doubt she ran this by anyone. Besides she is only making a little over 400K a year so I bet she really needs that extra 70K.

"commentText": "Doug, most BoD meetings take place during the work day -- very seldom do they meet in evenings or on weekends.
So if she were to fulfill her DeVry BoD duties she would have to take time off from her UC job.
If she forfeited her UC pay for the time she did the BoD duties -- that would include ALL of the time she was away from her UC job that could possibly be OK but if she could do that then perhaps her job is NOT essential to the UC system and could be eliminated.

"commentText": "Whatever the outcome of the charges pending against DeVry, I am astonished that a senior state government administrator is apparently \"allowed\" under current state law/policy to accept a \"part time job\" paying $70,000 a year plus restricted stock options. The Legislature and UC Regents need to quickly clamp down on the ability of senior academic administrators to accept lucrative appointments of this nature.
Dr. Katehi is already well-compensated as UCD Chancellor and should be paying full time and attention to that role instead of accepting high-paying \"board of trustee\" appointments by private sector companies.
Also, it does not take someone with her apparent level of intellectual and academic achievement to understand that DeVry was merely attempting to \"purchase credibility\" by naming Dr. Katehi and the University of Arizona president to their board, especially in light of their legal troubles.
This was a serious lack of judgement by Dr. Katehi. DeVry and its ilk derive most of their revenue from student loans taken out by people who enroll their programs and either cannot complete them or find their \"degrees\" to be useless in the marketplace. They are ruined for life when they default on their loans. How can someone of Dr. Kathei's reputation as administrator of a top-flight academic institution like UCD agree to take $70,000 a year in payments that would likely, at least in part, come from student loans for often worthless academic programs? What am I missing here?
