However, one thing that the chatter in Westminster never quite seems to get is the directness in tone used by countries like Australia and Germany.
Rather like Mrs Merkel, if an Australian says 'no' it really does mean 'no'.
Write it up on the wall if you need to. Tattoo it on your forehead, maybe?

The UK has a huge trade deficit with the EU and a huge trade surplus with the rest of the world including Australia.

It looks more like the Australians want to make sure that Britain actually leaves the EU.
Of course, Australia may want to respect the EU law but I think ( provided the UK is really going to leave the EU ) informal negotiations between Australia and the UK will start pretty soon, if they haven't started already. ",

"commentText": "Unsurprising, Australia has started negotiating a FTA deal with the EU. As are most of the useful markets Liam Fox hopes to bag.
If the UK Govt. and Parliament decides not to opt for the Single market we should at least retain membership of the customs union and its FTAs, and additionally negotiate on non tariffs to avoid the EU continually tweaking the rules to the disadvantage of UK exporters. A comprehensive EU-UK FTA would take too long and limited in range of sectors.
